About

Andrew began building and remodeling at the same age he learned to walk. Growing up he learned from his parents rebuilding and renovating house after house and building homes with Habitat for Humanity. He went to college in New York State and after graduating with a degree in Environmental Studies went to work at sea as a professional sailboat captain and educator. Eight years later and after captaining ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific and sailing as far as Tahiti and Bermuda he moved back ashore and began working as a custom carpenter, also launching a custom van conversion business.

Moving to Portland, OR in 2019 he launched Rose City Carpentry and Remodeling and has been busy ever since. He works with a small team of carpenters and trusted specialty subcontractors and maintains a high standard of professionalism and service.

What to expect

Small Remodel: A small bathroom or light kitchen remodel. 25-40K

The first step is to hear your vision for the space and the rough scope. I’ll be able to give a rough budget at that point. Next step is to refine the scope and develop a specific budget and schedule. This will involve at least one site visit and discussions around material and finish choice.

Mid-size Remodel: Larger bathroom, kitchen with all new cabinets, some layout changes. 40-65K

First we’ll talk about a rough scope and rough budget. Next step is the development of plans to build from and choosing all finishes/materials. This may or may not involve developing blueprints and working with a designer. It will involve a couple of site visits including with specialty subcontractors.

Large Remodel: Adding a new bathroom, moving or removing walls, a kitchen with significant layout changes. 70K-100K+

A very rough budget can be provided after hearing the initial scope, but larger projects can easily change 10s of thousands of dollars with a few decisions. This is one of the reasons it is so valuable to have a general contractor involved in a project starting with the design phase. A designer and plans will definitely be involved.

Additions: Additions from small bumpouts to dormer additions or adding significant squarefootage to your home.

All additions require plan development and approval by the building department.

Artie Kramer

Andrew did a total kitchen remodel for us. He sketched it out, did the demolition, made custom cabinets, tiled, installed flooring, helped us select countertops and really took care of every little detail we didn’t even know needed taken care of. Beyond being extremely satisfied with our new kitchen we were impressed with the process and his communication along the way.
